Dream

I dreamed that I met a mermaid who could turn into a seagull... and she looked like a girl from my old school, Hanne.

Turns out it was her; though she didn't look any older than then. (She did say she was the same age as Gaby Bremer, which - in retrospect - was odd since I don't think she could have met her at school since they weren't there at the same time. And besides, Hanne was in my year while it wasn't Gaby but rather her sister who was.)

We ended up driving somewhere together in a motor home.

...I have no idea what that was supposed to mean.

I was eating some dates right now and decided to look up "Date" in Wikipedia, which brought me to the article Phoenix dactylifera on the date palm.

Looking at the Interwiki links to see what it's called in other languages, I see that the link in the Yiddish Wikipedia is called טײטלבױם Teytlboym. And a light went on in my head.

You see, in my school, there was a girl called Teitelbaum (Yaara was her first name, I think). So I guess her family name was a Yiddish "date palm" in a Germanicised orthography! (Or, nearly equivalently, a dialectal/regional/obsolete German word. At any rate, I had never heard of "Teitel" before.)

(FWIW, in German it'd be "Dattelpalme".)

Amy seriously needs more English books for me to read her.

So today, we went to an English bookshop (used books) in Hamburg; I drove there after work and Stella and Amy met me there.

We spent about half an hour in the children's section, picking up all sorts of books, including several Charlie and Lola books inside a matching bag!

After that, we went over to the next entrance, where they sold English food, and got some treats for me :D. Some English cereal, some McVitie's Digestives, some Tim-Tams (I didn't know you could get them outside of Australia). And also mint sauce for Christmas; let's hope we manage to get lamb this year!
