Wonderful spam
Just read in the c't about how the German computer exhibition "Systems" had everyone register at a bunch of machines standing near the entrance before they could get in. This made a lot of people uneasy, even though there was a check box where they could opt out (hah!) of the use of their data for marketing purposes.
But that didn't stop the organisers from sending an email newsletter to every visitor and even soliciting advertisers in this email newsletter, saying it goes to "thousands of IT professionals". And they said they didn't need the recipients' permission because they had a "pre-existing business relationship". Feh.
