So, after installing some additional Stuff Packs, my sims' interactions were severely curtailed; the options would be limited and interactions would often drop out of the queue shortly after starting.

Tonight, I sat down for some 50/50 loving and, after many tries, finally narrowed it down to one (which shall remain nameless)—perversely, one the newest hacks I had (I thought new ones would be fairly safe), dating from September 2008.

So, had a look for a new version, found and installed it, and hey presto, it works! While I was at it, I also updated the other related hacks from the director's cut package (though not the ones that are only available for download separately), gave that a quick test and the interaction problem hadn't reappeared. So that's good.

Die Qual der Wahl

EA sent me an email telling me that The Sims 2 IKEA Home Accessories will be available soon.

So I had a look at the website, and it told me that if I pre-ordered with participating online retailers, I'd get some bonus items.

The problem being that the bonus items depended on who I pre-ordered with! Hm, decisions, decisions.

In the end I went with weltbild.de, partly because they had an office chair very similar to the one I have at home, and partly because they promised free shipping if you have the items sent to one of their shops.

In the end, it turned out that the game is not eligible for this (though it didn't tell me why not), but I ended up buying with them anyway. And with Amazon.de, the other main possibility (besides the EA shop itself), I would have had to pay shipping, too, since the order would have been under €20. Ah well.

Self-Sims

I just asked Stella to make some Sims which would look like us three, since I'm rubbish at designing things.

It's hard to get a resemblance to a concrete person out of those sliders; they tend to leave the face looking really odd more often than not, but you can see some resemblance. (I'm probably the most easily recognisable, though the fact that I was the one she started with and so she still had more patience probably helped.)

It's a bit depressing to see my paunch on a Sim :)

I intend to make a userpic of my self-Sim at some point, to use for Sims-related entries. (Don't hold your breath, though.)

I think I don't like playing multiple Sims in one family. (When I told Stella that just now, she said, "O RLY? You've played the game for how long, now, and only just figured that out?")

I think part of what made me fascinated again with playing the Sims was playing the example family with Cyd and Porthos (Rosedale?) after installing Pets: the fact that there was only one human around.

Now that he has married and has a daughter, there are three people running around, but I feel like I want to focus on one. I feel kind of obligated to either make the others follow a certain plan, or just ignore them and have them running around in the background, in which case they might as well be gone.

I think I can't wait for Cyd to die. (He's already an Elder - but with permaplat he'd still have a fair few days to live.)

Perhaps I should kill off the parents or something and see whether playing just the daughter will be as fun as the gameplay was just after starting Cyd and Porthos. (There are two cats and a dog now, though one of the cats will shuffle off to meet her maker in a couple of days, leaving only the other cat [bought from the pet shop] and the dog [adopted as a puppy].)

Sims 2 Pets

Meike lent me her Pets Game Guide.

After reading through it, I'm a bit tempted to get that expansion pack; when it was initially announced, I didn't think I'd be interested in it or that it would have interesting (for me) gameplay, but after reading through the Guide, I'm no longer so sure.

Will have to see.

Do any of you have the Pets expansion pack to The Sims 2, and if so, do you like it or could you take or leave it? What things (whether gameplay, objects, build mode tools, etc.) do you like most? What do you like least?

...and I still need a Sims userpic.

Yesterday I was playing The Sims 2 and had this happen for the first time: someone chatted with someone else on the computer and raised the relationship score from about 15 to 56, making friends with them, and then I got a popup window: "Invite this person over?".

So I said yes, and she did indeed come over, even though it was only about 6:15 a.m.—a time when you can't even call a Sim on the telephone because they sleep until 7 or something.

So that was interesting.
