A checkbox, since the "check" mark is called a "tick" in some places. Hence the community name tickybox, where some people (predominantly a group of English people who know one another, it seems to me) post links to polls occasionally.
Seen from some polls, to have a little "tickybox" at the end to give people something to tick :) Especially when most other questions are text entries.
Can also be useful as a rough gauge of how many people have taken the poll, since many people like to tick the tickybox.
