They say it happens to everyone at some point

Amy fell off the table this morning while Stella was changing her nappy. She initially refused to be consoled but later accepted Stella's breast and fell asleep for a while.

Stella was rather distraught; I stayed calm since I've heard that babies are remarkably resilient. (I wasn't there when it happened; she called me at work.)

She called the pædiatrician and they suggested she bring Amy in; they looked at her and pronounced her pupils and her reflexes normal and the bump on the head wasn't anything unusual, either. Stella was to observe her for 24 hours and if she doesn't throw up or appear apathetic during that time, she's probably fine.

It does. Sometimes several times. It's OK, kids bounce.

(Ask me about Ernie's stitches sometime.)

Welcome to the club! It happened to Emily once, too. Fredrick has "only" fallen off Mom's bed so far. Both survived without any apparent side-effects.

This reminds me of something I've heard: Girls have stronger bones than boys because testerone, aside from having negative effects on longterm health overall, tends to make bones more brittle.

So, girls can usually take the bumps better than boys can.

They seem to be fine now, fortunately.

Yes. But as you say, I imagine that Stella may have suffered more from the entire experience.

Yeah, I imagine so. Tell her she's a good mother, for me =)

Shortly after my nephew learned to climb up onto the sofa, he started thinking it was great fun to then throw himself off it. At first, we'd make sure we tried to catch him, but he didn't like being caught, so in the end we just gave up and let him throw himself off the sofa all he liked!:p
