Haven't read the article yet, but I remember an example on the difference between "alright" and "all right" and why people shouldn't confuse them:-

"How did you do on the test?"
"Alright."

as opposed to

"How did you do on the test?"
"All right."

I remember reading "Troublesome words" by Bill Bryson, and it said that "alright" is not good style.

I've never even heard the suggestion that "alright" might be wrong. "All right" looks wrong to me, and I'd never use it in a million years except to mean "100% correct".

I like the all ready/already comparison; I suspect that's the direction all right/alright is heading.

I use "alright" more often, but that's mostly as a statement. ;)
