My thanks to crschmidt for kick-starting what became my reply to Request #111152.

I2 in gunk required to appreciate fully, but even so, it was an interesting exercise and might be informative to read the approved answer. (Though I wish the approval fairy had waited five more minutes since I was working on a second answer incorporating a couple of minor points I had overlooked :) )
