Sic transit gloria Vocis

Vox is closing at the end of September 2010.

I remember when Vox was this mysterious new service and everyone wanted to try it out—during the beta phase, if possible.

After that, it got pretty quiet, and I haven’t heard much from, or about, Vox. Occasionally, I’d get a notification that someone in my neighbourhood had updated, but that was pretty seldom, too.

I wonder how much it was used.

I think in some ways Vox was a good idea at the wrong time. I mean, if you look at Tumblr now, it's doing pretty much what Vox was aiming to do, something that's simple to use for non-geeks, and multi-media, and it's this huge thing. Partly the problem is that Vox, being based on the LJ code, didn't quite get the 'simple' thing down, but I still think it could have succeeded, if it had just showed up a couple of years later, when the FB generation were moving into microblogging.

I'm not even sure, but I think I remember I created an account when it was started. I don't believe I ever really used it.
