Speling is importent.

A number of people on my friends list pride themselves on their spelling and find it distinctly uncomfortable to see people consistently misspelling words. Some of those may be interested in this "mock the stupid" entry and its comments, which highlights some misspelled interests users list, such as litriture, sceince, writting, and grammer.

Also, this journal appears to be dedicated to pointing out misspelled interests, so if you like seeing a new example every couple of days, you could watch that account.

Science, like weird, is just a weird word. They both break the i before e except after c or when sounding like a rule.

Quite a few words break that so-called "rule". However, in this case, it isn't breaking the rule since it only applies when the ie/ei combination is one syllable. Sci-ence is two syllables.

In England, the rule goes "I before E, except after C, when it says "ee", so again, science isn't caught. Neither, I'm told, is weird in most British dialects, but that could be wrong.

NAH! (imagine me sticking my tongue out at you here! :))

I know I occasionally make stupid spelling mistakes, it's cause I get distracted while I'm typing, misspell a word then forget to check and post without spell checking. And often they're silly words as well that I know I spell incorrectly and could catch as soon as I saw it, my habit of skipping spaces between some words (eg highschool) or just the normal clumsy "woudln't"'s I do :).

Reminds me of another user on my flist who posted a statistic "top 100 words in my past journal entries" generated by some external utility... "abotu" scored in the top 100 :)

(tip: and you were supposed to say: no, Reigna it wasn't you I was thinking about when I wrote that post I'm gonna have to go back through my recent posts now to check I haven't made some stupid mistakes! :D)

THAT wasn't me :P

No. Hence the "another user".

And no, I wasn't thinking about you at all :) I was just prompted by the [livejournal.com profile] mock_the_stupid entry in connection with assorted, occasional comments by people who say they value correct spelling.

Don't worry.

yeah, I know.. just making sure :D

You know everyone's gonna pick on you when they find you make a silly mistake now? ;)

I had to go check, but :) It was me. "Teh" showed up too. I don't like spell checks. They tick me off. Besides, if I run spellcheck, then go back to fix the misspellings, I'll change my entry entirely. It's the way I work.

[identity profile] sovereigna.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
and my 'getting distracted while I'm typing' is normally along the lines of looking in entirely the opposite direction, or carrying on an involved conversation with someone while I'm typing :)

Agh! My head is starting to hurt from reading what everyone wrote on those links! :S
