2004-01-10T13:37:04Z is "Gigatime": 2^30 seconds = 1 Gbs (gibisecond) since 1970!

Huh?!

Unix machines traditionally measure time in seconds since 1 January 1970 midnight UTC.

So on Saturday, something sort-of noteworthy happened when the point of "230 seconds since 1970" was reached -- since computer people tend to think that powers of 2 are more important than powers of 10.

(And since 230 is close to 109, the prefix for the first "gibi-" is modelled on the prefix for the second "giga-" but with "-bi-" [presumably for "binary"] inserted.)

Does that help any? If not, ask again.
