(This entry will be in German since it’s about Stella’s new online Etsy-like shop, so it’s likely to be more interesting to local people.)

Stella joined Facebook a little while ago, in order to stay in touch better with her mother and her sister (her mother, in her turn, had joined Facebook to stay in touch better with Stella's sister).

And she seems to be quite the Facebook user now! Chatting with friends, uploading photos, playing Zynga social games such as FishVille or FarmVille... quite a difference to my use of the site :)

(On the other hand, she said she was annoyed that she had to answer a CAPTCHA whenever she approved a friend, but she didn't want to verify her mobile phone number. So perhaps she's not quite the power user.)

I remember how Stella was pregnant with Amy, and we were ready to announce it to the public (we kept it to ourselves for the first few weeks).

I came into work and my co-worker Meike was there. She asked how Stella was and I replied, "Gut; sie ist guter Hoffnung." Which literally means, "she is of good hope", but Meike twigged at once and replied, "Oh, that's nice! When's it due?" ("Oh, schön! Wann ist es soweit?"). Heh—fixed euphemisms.

Incidentally, when I looked up "guter Hoffnung" on Leo just now, it was marked "veraltend" (obsolescent). And translated as "to be expecting; to be in the family way". The latter phrase made me think of my father, who would often make fun of that phrase by saying, "she's in everyone's way", so I don't think I could ever say it with a straight face because I would instantly have the association in my mind!

What euphemisms do you use for being pregnant? Or do you always come straight out and say "I'm/my wife/my friend is pregnant"?

(One I find cute is "to have a bun in the oven".)

Stella decided to reinstall her computer, using the provided OS recovery disk.

She had a couple of abortive attempts which ended up in a blank screen and no reactions after setup was done and it had downloaded about 50 updates, but managed to persevere and eventually actually got the computer looking the way it did after we had bought it! (Including all the useless bundleware such as Medion Lotto and an eBay link on the desktop etc. etc.) Apparently, the secret was to include the Drivers+Applications disk at some point during the setup process, though she says she doesn't think she could duplicate her actions. At any rate, it works and that makes her happy.

The TV tuner works, too, though that's not so vital since she brought up the television set from the cellar which we had meant to sell but hadn't yet.

Stella bought some new clothes today.

She says she has a figure that she needn't hide, but most of her clothes are fairly baggy, so she bought some that are a bit more form-fitting.

My first impression, when she showed me a pair of jeans and a new top, was that she looked slimmer and taller in it.

But a bit later, while she was cooking food, I came into the kitchen, saw her from behind, and burst out laughing.

See why! (310K picture) )

This is going to be a long entry :)

How long? That's for me to know and you to find out. )
