Bought tickets for LoTR today, for Saturday the 21st.

There is only one cinema in Hamburg that regularly shows English films without dubbing or subtitles, and that's where I went. Last year, they showed the English version in the largest theatre, but this year, they're showing the German version there and the English version in one of the smaller ones.

When I asked the lady behind the counter about this, she said that last year a lot of Germans had complained because they wanted to see the film on the large screen.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, if they want to see the film on a large screen, they can go to one of the other dozen cinemas in the city. Anglophiles don't have the option of going to another cinema, so if there are enough customers who want to see LoTR to justify showing it on the large screen, that should be enough. But that's just me.

At any rate, I got a seat which I later found out was on the wrong side of the cinema (since the screen is not in the middle relative to the last rows but starts at one side of the room and goes about half-way across), but I'm sure I'll survive. The lady had at first given me a seat one row further to the front, which would have given me better leg room (an aisle in front) and a better view since it'd have been closer to the smaller screen, but it was part of a double seat.

Pity that the best row was fully booked, at least in the good viewing spots in the middle, at the time I wanted to go (3:30 pm).

I also got a ticket for Stella for the German version. We did that last year, too, so that we could go to the cinema together and each watch the film in our preferred language.

I would have watched the film together with my sister Ireen but since her baby's due on the 17th (or so), she said she wasn't sure whether she'd be able to make it :)
