FidoNet

So, I got kind of nostalgic and had a brief look for Fidonet stuff, starting at the Wikipedia article and also at this page.

The picture painted there seemed pretty depressing: that for years, an IC who, some say, does not have the support of his peers and has been voted out of office, keeps hanging around, doesn't update www.fidonet.org, and similar.

Does anyone who reads this still use FidoNet? Is it a place worth having a look at again or is it only bickering and politics and zones splitting off from other zones?
