Terrestrial Space Navy

I'm just reading a science fiction story set in the future, with a huge confederation of human worlds.

Earth has sent some space warships to fight an enemy, and the story just mentioned the position of an admiral in the "Terrestrial Space Navy" -- and I realised how incongruous that was: essentially, it means something like "earth-based air-based water-based forces", cxu ne? :)
