I was reading an article that read, in part:

außerdem gibt es eine clevere Einparkhilfe an Bord, die nicht nur mit den bekannten Piepssensoren arbeitet, um Rempler zu vermeiden, sondern die auf Wunsch eine Parklücke blitzschnell vermisst und dann anzeigt, ob es sich überhaupt lohnt, mit dem Rangieren zu beginnen.

At first, I thought vermisst was from vermissen and wondered why a sensor would miss (in the sense "pine for, long for") a parking space—until I realised that it's from the less-frequently-used vermessen (to survey, to measure), which made quite a bit more sense.

you know.. there are people who say that vegetables have feelings... why shouldn't parking spaces have feelings too...

us humans are so self centered ;)
