While looking around for sites on Malta to get the correct spelling for place names (to edit Wikipedia articles), I'm dismayed how few sites use the Maltese letters ċ, ġ, għ, ħ, and ż.

I would have thought that this isn't rocket science any more in the 21st century; UTF-8 is pretty widely supported now, if you don't want to use an 8-bit charset such as iso-8859-3.

It seems to me a bit like spelling English wtht vwls, since "different dialects pronounce them differently anyway" or something like that.
