I wondered about that, too. Undoubtedly the costume was in bad taste, but I think Halloween costumes need not show sympathy for the represented, since many are intended to be scary.

I think the author does have a point.

But then again, I believe that it is a good thing if it's unacceptable to dress up like a nazi. I can imagine that if people regularly saw others running around in nazi costumes for fun, nazi stuff might start to feel more normal and a bit of that "it may never happen again"-attitude might get lost.
