I've probably seen this before, ages ago, but [livejournal.com profile] daveorg_burn brought this to my attention again: Joel on Software - The Joel Test: 12 Steps to Better Code.

The one that hit me most was #8: "Do programmers have quiet working conditions?". Because in the new office, I'll no longer be in a three-person office but in a half-room with six people, separated only by a couple of shelves from the other part of the room, so it effectively contains twelve people, and the entire thing will be open to the hallway. And one of the people in my group (who's currently not in the same room as I am) is constantly on the phone, by his own admission, and I find it hard to concentrate when there's talking going on in the same room, since my brain keeps trying to process the information.

I wonder what the new office will do to my productivity. I can't imagine it'll increase. Feh.
