Return of the tacks

So, got my tax return in the post today.

And found that the government owes me €1177.48! Yay! (That's about USD 1400/GBP 780/CAD 1800/NZD 2000.)

And it only took them about two weeks, judging by the date on this entry. Which is a pretty quick, I'd say, especially since we were among the last to file our taxes.

Last year I know I got my tax back in less than a week, but the year before it was over two months.. guess that evens out to be about that. Though I know I won't get anywhere near that much :(

We now file our taxes electronically. Because we always get a refund*, I file as early as I can. I think I filed in early March this year, and the refund came in about 2 weeks.

Partly because of un-/under-employment and my correspondingly low 2004 income, I got every withheld penny returned to me. Over C$3k, which made life much easier.

* Between tithing and the Disability Tax Credit that our autistic daughter qualifies for, we always get a refund. I could perhaps choose to have my employer withhold less each paycheque based on the above, but it'd be too easy to fritter it away. Getting it as a big chunk in the spring makes it easier to use it for outstanding debt, or savings, or (if/when we buy a house) lump sum mortgage payments.

Based on my current job (esp. assuming I stay in it, which is very likely ... they like me!), and the fact that I'll be paying a whole bunch of tithing on non-taxable income (Thank you, Alex Trebek!), I suspect we'll get as much as C$7k back next spring. W00t! $-)
