Am I a horrible person for being profoundly annoyed by this?

I'm trying to get them to add Burggymnasium Altena (http://www.burggymnasium-altena.de/), where I was a student during my exchange year. No luck, but a school that doesn't even exist gets approved?

I submitted my school (http://www.international-school-hamburg.de/) as well, several days ago, without any apparent success.

The 'Germany' section is in a bit of a mess, though, mostly because there are no standardised and commonly-used abbreviations for the Länder. (There are standards, e.g. ISO 3166-2:DE, only nobody uses them.)

So yeah, I feel your pain.

Still waiting for Hadley School for the Blind to be added. I submitted it when they first asked for data, and again when they launched the Schools feature, but it has yet to be added.

There are over 20,000 records (possibly more by now) that are going through the approval system. Like with anything else, something amusing catches one of the worker's eye and it gets handled faster. I'm sure your school will get through soon. :)

I do appreciate your response, and thank you for the explanation. Still...

I know it sounds really mean and cold, but I'm not terribly concerned about the workers' amusement. Shouldn't "useful features" actually be of some real value? I scraped hard to afford my permanent account because I find LJ useful, and it really annoys me when things that should be useful give attention to meaningless crap first.

Well, the workers in question are volunteers, actually.

And they are approving thousands of schools at a rapid rate. They're also dealing with a lot of other issues (like the internationalization issue Philip mentioned) that go along with cleaning up the data.

It only took a moment to approve that one "school" -- I don't think doing so detracted or negatively affected anything.

We actually don't really have any way of taking schools out of order; our pending-schools mechanism pulls up one random school at a time. So things get approved in the order we see them -- believe me, if we had a way to handle schools in a different order, we'd get to things faster. ;)

That's MUCH less annoying than "someone was amused and approved the fictional school faster". Thank you for clarifying.

Yeah, I put my name down for Hogwarts. Since I couldn't figure out how to remove the field from my Info page, I thought putting down something really silly was my next best option.

Well, I suppose if one had read the books enough, one would be sufficiently qualified in Hogwarts magic to at least pass a rudimentary test... in a dream world, that is.

"What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?"
"Where might I find a bezoar?"
"What is the difference between monkshood and wolfbane?"

Ya... right. :S
