"Have a happy period" is actually a slogan for the P&G "Always" brand name of feminine hygiene products. Are you sure beinggirl isn't a corporate shill?

beinggirl.com is indeed corporate shill. It is run by Procter & Gamble, aka makers of Always.

to be clear, it's not hidden or anything; this isn't "viral" or "guerilla" marketing. they are very clear that it's a corporate website.

Heh, "xiao4" for laugh/grin/chuckle doesn't even begin to convey the connotation of flabbergasted.

I never have a happy period. A clot-filled one that makes me feel like I've just been invaded by gnomes who are actively trying to carve out my torso with pickaxes yes. But never a happy period.

Surely celebrating one's period would be like celebrating male pattern baldness? If someone's having their period, wouldn't their period be their least favourite topic of discussion?

I imagine that would, indeed, be the case for the majority of women. (Not having been one, I wouldn't know for sure.)

Indeed. With friends, I might say: "Pay my depressions no heed today, I have that sometimes", and my best friend and I know which symptoms the other has (not that they are easy to miss, with her being close to fainting if she doesn't take something against it, and with me being all whiny and without energy). But I'd never even think of wishing another woman, even one that I know, a "happy period". Those idiots who thought of it deserve all the backlash they get.
