Strange, I was looking through some support requests and came across this one, which was answered by [livejournal.com profile] emmavescence but used Emma's well-known butterfly userpic. That caused me to look at that user's userinfo.

Apparently, [livejournal.com profile] girl_from_mars changed her name. Pity; the old one was a lot easier to spell :) (and besides, I like things to stay the same, and I'm sure lots of people knew her as [livejournal.com profile] girl_from_mars.

I have Emma on my friends page, so I can give you a bit of an insight - "girl from mars" is a song by Ash - one she particularly liked when she started on LJ. She's decided, however, that she's outgrown the name and has been talking about changing it for a bit. Ideally, she wanted [livejournal.com profile] emma which had been inactive for a long time - however, it recently became active again, so that was out the window. She asked people to think of a new name for her, and she chose "emmavescence" as it was "a combination of effervesce and emma" (according to her friend that chose it). Personally, I wanted her to change it to [livejournal.com profile] g_f_m, as that was even easier to spell!:P The beauty of LJ renames is that you can still put [livejournal.com profile] girl_from_mars and it'll forward you to the right journal!

Ah! Thank you for that bit of background.

Interesting how [livejournal.com profile] emma has existed since 2000-01-08 but has only posted two journal entries, both of them last week.

I wonder what caused someone to come back to a dormant journal after three years.

(I think there are a bunch of Early Adopter journals lying fallow—and some of them have some choice usernames since the good ones tend to get taken first.)

It also annoys me sometimes when people change their names... Like [livejournal.com profile] shinigaminoonna recently did.
I also prefer it when people don't change their icons every other day. I'm glad I have my Wummel-Knuffel and you have your Martin The Duckie. ;)

And then there are people who change their display name twice a week, such as [livejournal.com profile] calliste :)

(What do you call that thing that's not your username but the other, um, user name? The one that says "Andrew" for you and "Philip Newton" for me?)
