This morning, Amy said that her little lamb has two mummies: she's the lamb's mummy and so's the sheep pillow she has at home.

So I said that some children do have two mummies, to which she responded, "Yes, and some don't."

Life's simple when you're a child, no?

Oh yes. I have a little girl in my choir whose father is from Africa, and last week we got into a discussion about other countries. One girl knew that "in England, they drive on the right - or the left - I don't know..." (when we do a song where they point at their heart, there's a fifty percent chance that they'll pick the correct side, so sweet.) Anyway, we got into Africa, which seems to be a point of interest probably because of the little girl, and someone explained that people there have darker skin because that's better with the sun, and the little girl then proceeded to explain how she only used a bit of sun-screen lotion in summer while others need lots - I love how they are completely casual about the fact that her skin is darker than theirs, that someone else might have blond hair, and someone else is taller than the rest... those are just part of someone's appearance for them. I just hope they can keep some of that openness.
