Digging through some old source code of mine, I found this humorous comment:

# Revision 1.8 01/10/31 15:57:40 15:57:40 pne (Philip Newton)
# Wer eine geschweifte Klammer aufmacht, muss sie auch wieder zumachen.
# -- Lao-tse (568-624)
#

(Translation: He who opens a curly brace must close it again, too.)

I had just that problem today! I'd somehow used a ) instead of a } and was convinced that perl was lying! It wasn't helped that it was reporting the error two lines further down and that (as far as I could see) all my braces were closed!:p Took me about 10 minutes to figure it out!

Heh, this is why I've always typed the open and close characters at the same time and then cursor over to type stuff in between =) I do that with quotes too.

An interesting plan! What puzzled me was that I was editing some old (working) code and was positive I hadn't touched that line!:p Bizarre...

Yeah, a weird cryptic error message or an error on a line you didn't touch or is absolutelypositively correct usually means you did something duh just a tad above that =)
