An interesting concept. A kind of read-only webmail service with no signup.

Basically, as soon as mail is sent to foo@mailinator.com, the account "foo" is created. Anyone can then go to Mailinator's page and read the mail for account "foo"; there's no sign-up, no personal information, not even a password. Also, all mail gets deleted after a couple of hours.

They say one possible use is when you want to sign up with some service and need a temporary email address; then you typically only need it to be valid for an hour or so, long enough to check the email for the validation key or registration code or whatever but afterwards you may not care any more. So, no spam problem for you.

Interesting.

Wow. That is indeed a very interesting idea. I think I'll bookmark that. Thank you very much!

I found a plethora of LJ-based sites today:

ATJournal (http://livejournal.animaltracks.net)
geekBlogs (http://lj.geeksoc.org)
Hookers and Gin (http://hookersandgin.com)
IBCorner (http://ibneko.servehttp.com/) (requires code)
Kemet Journal (http://www.kemetjournals.com)
Test Minilog (http://new.minilog.com)
MoobugLiveJournal (http://lj.moobug.net)
Brandeis Journals (http://www.jehudadaddy.com) (only for Brandeis University students and faculty)
SnarfyKat Zone (http://www.snarfykat.org/beta/) (someone's pet project; no way to join)
http://lj.teencity.org/ (defunct)

They're everywhere!

They are everywhere!

Thanks for bringing those to my attention.

The TeenCity one looks very defunct... my guess is that the BML pages were left up but the web server component that actually parses the BML code isn't there any more so it all gets spewed out to the hapless browser... http://lj.teencity.org/create.bml looks even more interesting.

And the New MiniLog site was interesting... 'pne' was already taken, and it was my account, but with my old password. So I guess they migrated users over at some point or something? But 'pne' on the normal MiniLog site still worked, with the new password... strange.

By the way, do you have a MindSay account?

Besides having the nifty option to update your journal by sending an IM via AIM or Y!M, they sent me an email after a week of no updating telling me they missed me and inviting me to update my journal. I found that an interesting idea.

I wonder if users have been complaining that it's unsolicited e-mail.

The email contains a way to turn off the notification, IIRC. I don't know whether anyone has complained, though.

Haha, I feel stupid for [...]

Not so loud, please.
