Why would one Dilbert strip generate 439 comments?

I don't think I want to read them.

Edit: OK, I had a peek. Judging by the lengths of threads (which were, fortunately, reduced to poster/subject pairs), it looked like a typical day on Slashdot. *sigh*

It started out as a satire of the typical "First post! Second comment to first post!" spectacle that usually devolves into a flame war. I stopped reading after the first 50 comments or so. :)

A pity it should have come to that.

That's the reason I never read /. much any more - it just seems to degenerate into random nonsense.

yeah, I noticed that this morning as well.

the threads were mostly composed of one or two dumbasses so it's not too appauling.

First rule about dumb comment threads:
Don't talk about dumb comment threads - lest you get a dumb comment thread thrust upon you.

I suppose so.

That thread might not have started had people not commented on how inane "first post" posts are, and other people not commented on how inane it is to comment on "first post" posts, et cetera ad nauseam.
