The way others see you

Just before I left for work this morning, I mentioned to Stella that I found jessical fascinating. When I mentioned "Jessica", she asked, "The one with the drugs?"

Interesting. Not "the one with two kids" or "the teen-age mom" or "the one who recently got divorced", but "the one with the drugs". I didn't think I'd painted such a one-sided picture of her.

It may not just by your portrayal - it's rather typical, in my experience, that people recognize the bad more than the good. Even if you had mentioned the other things, it's possible she would have picked up on and recognized Jess as "an entrepenurial leader in providing recreational materials to the lower class" or whatever she said she was ;)

Well, I hadn't told her about the entrepreneurial side of it since I only learned about that yesterday, but I had mentioned that she had fairly wide experience in the consumer sector.

That, and as a wife, if my husband had randomly mentioned being fascinated with a random female, I'd get snarky too. ;) But you've always described Stella as an absolute angel. :) I, on the other hand, am not angelic and openly jealous and snarky, you can ask that poor traumatized crschmidt guy.

Those essays were very interesting - they were the first real contact I had with you. You were emailing them to everyone, and I remember when you first emailed them, they were something I didn't really care about, you just wanted my opinion for some reason. When I read them is part of why I started talking to you more, and it helped me to learn a lot more who you are.

Of courese, they also made me think you were a goddess, a fact you soon dissuaded me from ;)

She scared me at first, too. Mostly because I had a distorted picture of her (from the way I saw her in IRC).

This changed after I started chatting to her in /query a couple of times. It was a pretty mind-twisting experience, since my prejudices didn't match what I was experiencing.
