Date: Saturday, 15 November 2003 22:39 (UTC)If I make any more, people may have channel cleansing rituals after I say the dreaded M word.
So, simply then, Happy Birthday.
And, if you spin in a circle a lot, it will look the words are ?oving which ?akes the? look ?uch like a ?arquee.
See, no "M" words.

But there are still other pretty things that don't involve scrolling—for example, there's a birthday background that

Date: Sunday, 16 November 2003 04:23 (UTC)And even then, it wouldn't be idiomatical, as you noted. It'd refer to a birthday that is happy, but days generally don't feel emotions.
A common phrase is "Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag", which is literally something like "heartly luck-wish to the birthday" :)

Date: Sunday, 16 November 2003 04:33 (UTC)Never thought about it like that - it's not a phrase I've ever thought about - just something you say. I guess a more grammatically correct phrase would be "(I hope you) have a happy birthday". I believe the Norwegian is "Gratulen Med Dag" (probably spelt wrong - my spelling of foreign languages is dire - and I can't quite locate my dictionary)!:p

Date: Sunday, 16 November 2003 04:36 (UTC)*googles* Looks like Norwegian, judging by the domains of the search results.

What's particularly interesting is that, although those three words exist like that in Danish too, the Google results are all Norwegian. That would imply this is a Norwegian-only phrase even though it consists of individual words that are identical in Danish. Very interesting.
