I wonder how many people are excited to find out that their favourite username isn't taken yet on LiveJournal, even though it's a fairly common word... and then to find out a week later that it's because they can't spell?

Are you trying to say that you wanted "pen" as an LJ name, on first place? ;)

Just kidding. Hmm... I'm thinking about [livejournal.com profile] ukelele here, whom did you have in mind?

I don't remember. Someone I saw on DeadJournal in a comment to someone's entry.

[livejournal.com profile] sgoast? he's one of my friends on LJ/DJ and he says that he's had his screen name since he was 10 (it was an e-mail address back then) and he was thinking "space ghost coast to coast" (the cartoon) and he was surprised no one had taken it. and so the nick name stuck and when he realised it, he was still about 10 and so he said he meant for it to be that way "space ghost coast to coast" :)

No. I don't remember who it was. (It might have been in a helpscreening post, or similar.) *looks briefly* No, can't find it.

like pthalo? (it's actually an accepted spelling, one of three (phthalo, pthalo, and thalo. but phthalo is actually the most common)

It's a colour. There is Phthalo green and phthalo blue. Phthalo blue is this colour: http://www.utrechtart.com/images/swatches/watercolors/phthalo_blue.jpg and Phthalo green is this colour: http://www.utrechtart.com/images/swatches/watercolors/phthalo_green.jpg

Different companies spell it different ways though :/ and pthalo is an accepted spelling, just not the most common.

Phthalo green is similar to Viridian which is another shade of green I really like. I buy my acryllics and my oils from different companies (well, I haven't painted for a while, but when I did buy paint), and my acryllic tube of green reads "phthalo green" and my oil tube of blue reads "pthalo blue" :)

Oh, and I should answer the question behind your question as well. In my colour symbolism, that shade of green refers to growth, new beginnings, a return to the basics, and finding myself.
