Meeting the family

pneStellas grandfather died last week on Monday. She and I went to the funeral in Bremen today.
Her great-aunt Karin, who lives in Hamburg, was so kind as to take us along in her car (her son Günther drove us).
It was an opportunity to meet some of her family, some of whom she had never met, either -- or only as a two-year-old.
What was also interesting for me was to listen to some of her great-aunts and great-uncles talk amongst themselves; they spoke not only in German but also in Platt. Nice to hear that that language is not dead yet... even though it seems to be restricted to the "older generation" these days.
