Well, not quite, but I'll be off to the qepHom (small meeting of fans of the Klingon language) in Saarbrücken; I'll be leaving tomorrow morning and returning on Sunday night.

Is there ever a big meeting of fans of the Klingon language? Is that even possible?

Is there ever a big meeting of fans of the Klingon language?

Yes. Well, it depends on what you mean by "big", I suppose.

There is the KLI Annual Conference (http://www.kli.org/stuff/qepmey.html) or qep'a' ("major meeting; conference"). The picture of participants at the 10th qep'a' (http://www.kli.org/stuff/pics/qep10_2_rotated_small.jpg) (this year) includes 26 people, by my count, which is apparently fairly typical for qep'a'mey (Lieven told me that about that number showed up for the qep'a' he organised in Brussels two years ago (http://www.kli.org/stuff/qep8pic.html)).

So this qepHom was fairly well-sized; I believe there were around 12–15 people present.

Is that even possible?

Well, there seem to be a fair number of people learning the language, but travel is, of course, not always convenient or affordable. (As one can see from the make-up of the 8th qep'a', the only one in Europe so far, which had attendees from Germany who, as far as I know, had never been to a qep'a' in America.)

On the other hand, for a yearly event, I can imagine people might undertake a journey they would otherwise not make—as I went to Saarbrücken, which I probably wouldn't do on a monthly basis or whatever since it is quite a long journey by train (and expensive by plane).
