I'm surprised how many people there seem to be with the name "Katzenellenbogen".

"cat elbow"? That's a rather... unusual name.

The Katzenellenbogen family is a rabbinical family descended from twelve Jews who settled in Katzenellenbogen in Hesse-Nassau (Germany) in 1312, with thousands of descendants and huge family connections throughout Europe and America. The name was first used after the family moved to Padan, Italy by Meir Katzenellenbogen (1482-1565).

Since Jews typically intermarry a lot and keep close family ties, the name has become quite well-known.

Ah! Thank you for this information.

That explains why there were also a number of genealogical websites prominently placed in search results.
