I just read this entry by [livejournal.com profile] thedward and it made me think briefly.

Many people list a lot of interests on their userinfo page, but do they write about their interests? Do I?

They'd have to implement some kind of weighting scheme. Right now, it just assumes that you're equally enthusiastic about all of them.

I know I write a lot about one of them. -pokes the interest between 'chocolate' and 'christy'-

You keep mentioning that name, as you did here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/cuddled/91320.html) as well... yet I thought you didn't want to mention that name in public entries?

I'm a bit confused.

Or do you think mentioning the name is fine if it's in "just a friend" contexts?

It's fine as long as I'm referring to him as a friend and nothing else. Once it gets mushy, then we're switching to Fred.

It seems that most users treat their interests list as "interests and likes" rather than strictly interests.

Also, it seems people tend to write about events and (to a lesser extent) feelings rather than interests.

I'm interested in every single interest I listed at teH DJ (http://www.deadjournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=denial_land&mode=full). Some of them are inside jokes, some of them just look weird, but I don't think I have to constantly write about them, you know :)

I think your interests with more than four words are kinda ugly since they use underscores.

Why not use (which is a tab but displays as a space in browsers and is shorter than either [a real space] or   [a non-breaking space])?

I learned that from Maryam.

I just went through my interests and decided I've written posts that could be considered "about" (rather than just mentioning) roughly 75 of my interests -- that's exactly half at the moment, though I'm going in now to delete a couple duplicates.

For the most part, though, my entries ARE the "this is what I did today" type -- I started the journal as a way of keeping up with people when I went to college, and it's mostly stayed that way.

i don't think i actually write-write about them, but they do sort of tie into my enties somehow. I don't think I've made any entries that touched on quite a few of my interests, but then, i do work most of them into my entries from time to time. i don't think it should be a conscious thing, really. no "I'm going to make an entry about achilles tendons today!" but if it's summer, and if I happen to see someone walking barefoot with a really gorgeous achilles tendon, it just may find its way into my entry.
