I dreamed I was standing at a bus-stop and jumping up and down to kill time—jumping higher and higher, about two metres high at the end.

I remember thinking, "Strange: usually I can only jump this high when I'm dreaming, but I'm sure I'm awake," and I later told someone else about this after "waking up".

A bit later, I seem to recall that the telling someone else was in a dream. Even later, the alarm clock went off and I woke up for real. I realised that I must have had three levels of dreams: I had a dream about dreaming of dreaming.

I think that's the highest number of levels of meta-dreaming I can remember.

Oh, I remember a third-level meta-dream from ages ago. I cannot remember what the "deepest" level was about, but I remember that I was first "part" of it, then later I was watching it as a film in the cinema. Then I walked out of the cinema after the end of the film, did something else with the friend I was at the cinema with, and then later I read about whatever it was we did in a magazine as if it had been a fictional story. Then I talked to someone about reading that story in the magazine, and then I woke up. So it wasn't a dream about dreaming of dreaming, but a dream about reading of watching a scene... Heheh.

Hi! I know this entry is rather old, but I have a question about this dream you had, if you remember.

My question is whether you think at any point in time during the dream you realised that you were actually dreaming?

"Strange: usually I can only jump this high when I'm dreaming, but I'm sure I'm awake," — When you thought this, do you think it might have encouraged you to think about it rationally, and do you think it might have led you to the logical conclusion that you were actually dreaming?

I don't think so. The bit you quoted was as close as I got to realising I was dreaming. Everything seemed real to me, so it was just "oh, interesting, this is neat".

Even when I can fly (which sometimes happens in my dreams), it seems natural.

When you thought this, do you think it might have encouraged you to think about it rationally, and do you think it might have led you to the logical conclusion that you were actually dreaming?

I may have to try this when I get that thought again.

"The bit you quoted was as close as I got to realising I was dreaming. Everything seemed real to me, so it was just "oh, interesting, this is neat"."

I see. Very interesting. My thought would have been that you had a false awakening (i.e. dreaming of waking up) precisely because you realised you were dreaming (to get you think it's real again).

"I may have to try this when I get that thought again."

I do remember dreams in which I thought about it and actually still convinced myself that it was all real. It seems that while you're dreaming, your logic thinking and conclusion-making isn't working quite the same way as in real life... Either that, or you'll manage to convince yourself you're dreaming and get another false awakening straight after. :)

OK, well, if you've wondered why I asked about this stuff, please see my most recent entry if you haven't already. :)
