Third-level meta-dreaming

I dreamed I was standing at a bus-stop and jumping up and down to kill time—jumping higher and higher, about two metres high at the end.
I remember thinking, "Strange: usually I can only jump this high when I'm dreaming, but I'm sure I'm awake," and I later told someone else about this after "waking up".
A bit later, I seem to recall that the telling someone else was in a dream. Even later, the alarm clock went off and I woke up for real. I realised that I must have had three levels of dreams: I had a dream about dreaming of dreaming.
I think that's the highest number of levels of meta-dreaming I can remember.

"Strange: usually I can only jump this high when I'm dreaming, but I'm sure I'm awake," — When you thought this, do you think it might have encouraged you to think about it rationally, and do you think it might have led you to the logical conclusion that you were actually dreaming?

Even when I can fly (which sometimes happens in my dreams), it seems natural.
When you thought this, do you think it might have encouraged you to think about it rationally, and do you think it might have led you to the logical conclusion that you were actually dreaming?
I may have to try this when I get that thought again.

Date: Monday, 1 March 2004 14:18 (UTC)I see. Very interesting. My thought would have been that you had a false awakening (i.e. dreaming of waking up) precisely because you realised you were dreaming (to get you think it's real again).
"I may have to try this when I get that thought again."
I do remember dreams in which I thought about it and actually still convinced myself that it was all real. It seems that while you're dreaming, your logic thinking and conclusion-making isn't working quite the same way as in real life... Either that, or you'll manage to convince yourself you're dreaming and get another false awakening straight after. :)
