Has anyone just lost The Game?

Occasionally, I see people mention that they just lost The Game.

These always amuse me, since I've never considered playing. But some other people seem to take it fairly seriously.

I suppose it's schadenfreude, really, because I imagine that to them, it's not a joke. But still. I find it funny when someone, through a public announcement that they have lost The Game, cause other people to lose, too, and declaim so publicly.

(Am I being too callous? I suppose I really don't know how seriously people take it, or what emotions surround losing.)
