The distance between two points on a sphere was a question I asked in one of my first posts to Usenet.

Now, while looking through the Wikipedia main page, I saw a link to the haversine formula, which is used for this, among other things.

That page has a link to a couple of useful links as well: What is the best way to calculate the distance between 2 points? and Longitude and Latitude Calculations.

That sounds scary :)

The things I found only seemed to need things I could wrap my head around, such as squares of sines.
