I know that ain't a great price, but the coupon works instore, too, and I like being able to LART a real live human being if the damn thing turns out to be flaky, so that kinda beats pricegrabber.com by default. Mrs Spacey and I are going to get one each this Saturday.

(For me, the election was Bush vs Kerry, not Reps vs Dems; I hadn't paid much attention to parties.)

Date: Thursday, 28 October 2004 11:03 (UTC)I brush my teeth 2-3 times a day, use a good battery powered toothbrush, floss, and use mouthwash. I also don't eat tons and tons of sweet things. It's pretty sufficient, I would have to say, as my teeth don't have any major problems at the moment.
2. If you could re-define the standard American diet so that it was a healthier one, what would people be eating more of and less of?
People would be eating a lot less of sweets, processed food, fast food, and oily greasy foods, and they would be eating a lot more organic, unprocessed food.
3. If most people ate the diet you described in #3, how would that affect the health statistics of Americans?
I'm assuming that was supposed to be #2 instead of #3, and if they ate more and less of what I said, Americans would probably be a lot less obese as a general population, they'd have more energy, and they'd probably be a lot less reliant on coffee.
4. In your own words, how would you describe anorexia nervosa?
Anorexia nervosa is when someone gets the idea into their head that they're too fat, and instead of trying to lose weight in healthy ways, they starve themselves. Most people with anorexia nervosa never stop thinking that they can lose more weight, even when they're deathly thin, unless they manage to get help. I would imagine that it's a very hard disease to shake.
5.List 10 potential causes of eating disorders.
-low self-esteem
-being overweight
-stress
6.How would someone know they have a binge eating disorder? What are the characteristics of this disorder?
7.What effects does bulimia have on the body?
8.What can friends and family do to support and encourage a person with eating disorders? How can they get help for that person?
9.Why does the American Heart Association recommend NOT eating a diet that includes mostly one kind of food?
10. The high protein-low carbohydrate diets are very popular right now. What fad diet puts the body into ketosis? (Ketosis - The abnormal accumulation of ketones in the body as a result of excessive breakdown of fats caused by a deficiency or inadequate use of carbohydrates. Fatty acids are metabolized instead, and the end products - ketones - begin to accumulate. This condition is seen in starvation, occasionally in pregnancy if the intake of protein and carbohydrates is inadequate, and most frequently in diabetes mellitus. It is characterized by ketonuria, loss of potassium in the urine, and a fruity odor of acetone on the breath. If untreated, ketosis may progress to ketoacidosis, coma, and death. - Mosby’s Medical, Nursing, and Allied Health Dictionary.)
11. Why does the American Heart Association not recommend high protein diets?
12. The American Heart Association identifies certain health risks associated with eating too much protein. What are some of these risks?
13. What is your own opinion on fad diets after reading this lesson? What advice would you give to someone who wanted to lose weight with a fad diet?
