Date: Tuesday, 2 November 2004 02:16 (UTC)The polls open in an hour and a half here, Mark and I intend to be among the first to vote, to be certain we'll be ABLE to vote. The Republicans have hired "voter challengers" in Ohio to harass people at the polls and challenge their right to vote. Although this is technically legal in Ohio, a judge ruled yesterday that the voter challengers have to stay away, because it would hinder the voting process.
They've appealed (of course), but the courts don't open til 9AM, which buys us time enough to exercise our Constitutional right unhindered.
We'd most definitely be challenged at the polls. Internal memos that were leaked showed that they only planned to challenge minorities because those folks tend overwhelmingly to vote Democratic. Mark, being Syrian-American, would be jumped on so fast! I would be too, since I'd be coming in with him, and I also definitely don't look like a "good christian Republican" girl.
I'm kinda pissed about all of this.
