I had a Catholic latin teacher and her attitude to sex was that you should wait until you're married. However, if you don't then this is what you need to know. It was the most sensible perspective I've ever heard.
I think I like the way that was phrased and it sounds like a viewpoint I could hold.

None of the "abstinence only" crap, where the evidence is that teen sexual activity, pregnancy, and STD rates go up when that's all that's taught. But also none of the "do whatever you want, it's OK, no matter what your parents or church taught you", either.
Rule #1: If nobody had sex outside of marriage, there'd be no STD's and no unwanted pregnancies. (Gross oversimplification, but you know what I mean.)
Rule #2: If you choose to have sex outside of marriage, then you're at risk for STD's and unwanted pregnancies. Here are things you can do to minimise (not eliminate) your risk.
Shame common sense is so dang uncommon ...
