Saturday, 12 March 2005 09:32Seeing the whiteboard in the biology classroom with a mnemonic for the three classes of levers: "Ethel the flea fell", a mnemonic for EFL FLE FEL, which is supposed to remind you that a first-order lever has the fulcrum between the effort and the load (e.g. a crowbar), a second-order lever has the load between the fulcrum and the effort (e.g. a wheelbarrow), and a third-order lever has the effort between the fulcrum and the load (e.g. the muscle pulling your lower arm up).
