I read somewhere once that you can get a pretty good idea of a woman's weight by looking at her upper arms.

No idea how accurate that is, though—as in, is the amount of fat on the upper arm always proportional to total body fat, necessarily?

Seemed interesting, though.

Judging by the weight fluctuations of my own body, and from the bodies of my friends, I'd judge it to be as true as general guidelines tend to be.

So not true for me. I have very little body fat, but I don't have scrawny upper arms. There is definitely a correlation, but it's nowhere near a perfect one.

No. Genetics dictate differences in body fat distribution, and besides, you can't always differentiate fat from muscle by just looking at someone's arms when they're at rest.

Additionally, it would have to be "fat percentage" or similar, rather than raw mass number, since tall fat people and short fat people might both have fatty arms.

Nah. I have absolutely no extra weight on my upper body. I have slim arms, however I carry my extra weight in my legs. No way anyone would catch me in a skirt or shorts.

So sorry, definitely disagree with you there.
