Sometimes when my father was asked what time it was, he'd reply, "Half past kissing time; time to kiss again!"

I can imagine my father doing something like that. Chasing you around around the house with 'grandad kiss' lips (lips folded back so the inside wet part shows and makes all wet sloppy on your cheek) peeled back in threat. :)

Whenever I'd ask my brother what time it was, he'd always shout "Chocolate time!" this was when I was about 5. As he got a bit older and he was about 10 or so, when I'd ask him he'd shout "Time to die!" and tickle me to death. (Brother's about 3 years older than me... I think)

So now, whenever someone asks me the time, I have to think for a moment so I don't blurt out either saying at an inappropriate time *g*

Silly father. Obviously if it was half past kissing time he'd have to wait another half before it's time to kiss again.

There's a Rainmakers song on (I think) The Good News and the Bad News called Kissing Time that uses that phrase as its hook.

No idea where he got it from.

this page (http://www.ebrummie.co.uk/brummie_phrases.htm#H) implies it's at least as old as 1894 in Birmingham, which is not all that far from Leicester, where my father grew up.
