Isabeau de Bavière

Never thought about whether there was anyone named Isabeau besides isabeau, but searched Wikipedia for it on a whim and found Isabeau de Bavière (also Isabelle, Elizabeth). Her husband was insane.

So, Isabeau is a girl's name? Would have thought it was the male counterpart to Isabelle.

That's what I initially thought as well (since beau and belle are masculine/feminine versions of the same adjective in French).

But apparently it is a girl's name. (And isabeau is a girl.)
