What's funny to me is (1) how fake the retouched versions look (especially the ones that were edited to make the model look thinner!) and (2) how the most heavily retouched photos were often not very good to begin with, especially with regards to lighting. I'm an awful photographer, but with a decent digital camera even I can get the lighting much better than that.

Going back and forth between the retouched and original versions makes the retouched ones look sculpted out of plastic. Overly shiny plastic. Yick.

Of course, I've never been a fan of fashion magazines or those sorts of ads in the first place.
