This evening, Amy was pointing to a butterfly on her high chair’s seat cover and saying “Sessa” (or thereabouts).

Stella at first thought she was saying “Kissen” (cushion), but I said I thought she was trying to say “Schmetterling” (butterfly). Stella asked Amy whether she meant “Schmetterling”, and Amy said, “Jaaaa!”—in the kind of tone one might use to praise a child who’s done something well: “Well done! Good girl!” :)

Hee! Kids are so cute.

Erika can't really say Schmetterling, either -- but her "Schnecke" is completely intelligible.

That is so cute! I can't wait until mine starts to talk. I think I might try to teach her some German words along with the English. Some of the words, like Schmetterling, are so fun to say! It would be like a game.

Your Amy is so cute in her pictures!

I'm sure that would be great!

The world always needs more children who speak German and English :) ([livejournal.com profile] aquariumgirl, who commented on this entry too, also speaks German to her daughter while her husband speaks English.)

Even if Zoë just learns a few words -- like a game, as you say.

Your Amy is so cute in her pictures!

Thanks! We think so, too, but we're biassed ;)
