I just noticed that my journal has a Google PageRank of 5/10 (according to my Google Toolbar).

Not bad, I suppose. (Or is that even "pretty good"? I'm not an SEO person and don't know what PRs are good and which are rather average.)

(And that's not just the the rank of LiveJournal itself, since the main page is ranked 8/10, for example.)

I noticed my PageRank when I clicked on "Related Pages" on a LiveJournal site which was pointed to by an external search term (though the user's journal itself is not indexed), and found "about 31" links related to it, of which my journal was one. So I thought that if my journal shows up on such a short list, Google probably thinks moderately highly of it.

Wow, that's actually very good for a journal site... congrats!

It depends on what you are looking for in a PageRank.. A higher PageRank just means that a lot of people linked or indexed to your account and that you've chossen a common keyword base to describe your journal.

So if you want lots of people to find your journal, your ranking of 5 gives you a 50% advantage over another journal to be found. I personally would want a PageRank of -10, but that is me. :)

How do you find out what the Google PageRank of a site is?

I have the Google Toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/T4/) installed in MSIE, which is what I happened to be using briefly when I found that out. (It's also available for Firefox, but not for Opera, AFAIK.)

There's a space on the Google Toolbar which'll show you the pagerank of the site you're currently visiting, if you've allows the toolbar to send the URL to Google.

I believe it's not a guaranteed correct or exact value (might be out-of-date or approximate or something), but it's the only way I know to find out a page's PR at all.
