In which Philip remembers some Japanese
Thursday, 13 December 2007 21:14I know "about 850–890" kanji according to this online kanji test.
I was surprised at some of the readings I remembered, even though I haven't "done" Japanese for... over 10 years now, I suppose.

Date: Thursday, 13 December 2007 21:50 (UTC)I kind of miss learning Japanese. (And I did so before it was the popular thing to do!)
Ah well. Maybe some day.
Did you ever take the JLPT or the kanji kentei?

Date: Thursday, 13 December 2007 22:05 (UTC)I never took the JLPT, though my teachers said I should have cleared level 2 easily, and level 1 with a bit more study. Of course, that was in 2001, so I'm a bit rusty now. I think I might be able to pass level 2 with a bit of revision, maybe I'll apply for next year just for the fun of it.

Date: Thursday, 13 December 2007 22:10 (UTC)I suspect I've retained a lot more grammar than kanji, though; I was always (relatively) weak at kanji.

Date: Saturday, 15 December 2007 18:42 (UTC)Also frustrating is how much I've forgotten! There were some I swear I should have known -- and would have known five years ago, but which I could not remember exact details/context for.
(2387 for advanced+traditional+72 is not bad, but I suspect I would have done better if I weren't so rusty)
