The other day, while playing with Amy's little Fisher-Price family, she asked me, "Kanns du suchen für die Mami?".

That looks like a syntactic calque on "to look for" -- German doesn't require a preposition with "suchen".

Yeah, I think that's what she did.
Reminded me of when my niece was about three and, instead of saying "das ist unfair!", would stamp her foot and exclaim "das ist ungefähr!".
