Dog's Day

Amy recently checked out Dog's Day from the library (along with a number of other children's books).

And yesterday, she read it to me! Granted, it's a fairly simple story, and there's only one sentence on each page, but she captured the essence of each sentence and repeated it to me. And today, she even read half of it to Stella, translating into German! But then she get to two pages in a row which, she felt, exceeded her vocabulary in German and got discouraged.

No; she remembered the story from having heard it read to her.

What I found surprising was that the she remembered not just the gist but even much of the actual wording, and that she told me the story (that she had heard) rather than just commenting on the pictures.

When I was about her age, my grandpa would read me stories and sometimes try to skip a few pages. I'd correct him, and recite whatever part he skipped. 0:)
