When I logged into Second Life just now, I was invited to come over to "Isle of View" to celebrate Valentine's Day.

I snickered at the pun :).

Piers Anthony made it ages ago in the book _Isle of View_. Which I read, but in my defense, I was rather young at the time.

I've never quite figured out the purpose of Second Life... It looks nice, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to DO - I just fly around, change outfits, and get hassled by peculiar people. Is there a point to it?

It's different things for different people, I suppose.

TBH, for me right now, most weeks I just log in once a week to collect my L$50 stipend.

I think that for some people, it's a place to meet friends - there are some people who have, I believe, formed quite close relationships. Others go to party, or look at things, or practice building. Some might even earn some money.

I imagine the social aspects are probably the biggest, though.

(I joined because someone on the Lojban mailing list suggested it as a place to meet virtually and to speak Lojban together. I never did end up seeing him in-world, though time zones almost certainly have something to do with that.)

Back when I went into SL more often, I met some really nice people around where I lived, and had some good times, but that does require some investment of time which I don't have right now.

I've spent way too much time in SL... but it's very boring alone.

It's a good place to hang out with (or meet new) friends. It's particularly good for roleplaying games.

Building and scripting can be rather addictive as well.
